FY 2020: Ben Franklin Approved $4.8 Million in 25 Companies

SAVE OUR STARTUPS FUNDING HELPS COMPANIES RESPOND TO PANDEMIC

Through its Save Our Startups initiative, made possible with support from the Department of Community and Economic Development, Ben Franklin deployed an additional $2 million to 38 early-stage companies in the Philadelphia region between May and June 2020.

23 early stage technology firms, whose access to funding through the recent business support channels were often limited, received zero-interest loans to withstand the pandemic’s effects on their business. An additional 15 companies received grants for development of technologies related to fighting COVID-19, working to improve such conditions as effectiveness of vaccines, PPE device and decontamination manufacturing, remote healthcare, and exchange of safety-related information within residential buildings. The grants were deployed through the research and development partners within Ben Franklin’s PRIMA initiative, which is supported by the US Economic Development Administration.
