Ben Franklin Wins EDA Award; Philadelphia Region to Lead in Medical Device Innovation

Moving innovation in the Greater Philadelphia Region another step forward, Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern PA has earned a $600,000 U. S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) award to support Ben Franklin’s Advanced Manufacturing for the Medical Device Industry (AMMDI) initiative.

The award will help entrepreneurs in the Philadelphia area develop, commercialize and manufacture medical devices exploiting the rapid evolution of advanced manufacturing technologies.

Whether for utilizing new materials, developing software or employing advanced manufacturing processes in creating prototypes and products, Ben Franklin will use the award to provide business planning, product development, prototyping and manufacturing support to qualifying entrepreneurs and inventors within its broader network of partners and initiatives in the region.

Says Ben Franklin CEO RoseAnn B. Rosenthal, “With Ben’s unique role at the crossroads of life sciences, advanced manufacturing and IT, we’re thrilled for the EDA’s support in helping our region’s pioneers of innovation and commerce make amazing things happen.”

Anthony P. Green, Ben Franklin’s VP of Technology Commercialization adds, “AMMDI now adds a fourth new Ben Franklin program to support the region’s life science industry. Integrating with Ben Franklin’s PA Life Sciences Connect, FabNet and Navigator programs, AMMDI links advanced device manufacturing possibilities to the skilled resources in the greater Philadelphia area. The award brings device and digital health inventors greater access to the minds and tools in the community that can make their brilliant visions tangible. The EDA’s backing leverages Ben Franklin’s many regional partners and represents a great commitment of confidence to the potential for innovation, economic growth and job creation in our region.”
