VICE PRESIDENT, TECHNOLOGY COMMERCIALIZATION GROUP PHYSICAL SCIENCES

President and CEO
Summary:
This position requires a combination of strategic and operational planning, reporting and coordination at the executive level, development of regional partnerships and initiatives, staff and program management, as well as one-on-one company and partner relationship development with associated day to day support activity. The VP, Technology Commercialization Group - Physical Sciences (TCG-PS) provides leadership and management for the TCG, whose mission is to provide a broad range of product development / commercialization programs and services related to the physical sciences, to regional companies that will result in their improved and accelerated growth. This includes emphasis in related focus sectors and markets including Energy/Clean Technologies, Defense, Advanced Communications, and Advanced Textiles, as well as other related areas. TCG-PS also establishes relationships and supports collaborative technology initiatives with regional universities, research institutions and federal agencies that will result in the creation of additional resources for company assistance. The Vice President, TCG-PS is responsible for creating and modifying programs, developing new services to support the needs of regional companies, and identifying and developing external funding to support TCG-PS activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and monitor strategic and operating plans / budgets
- Identify and cultivate sources of external funding for staff and program development
- Cultivate and maintain collaborative relationships with key personnel at universities, companies, anchor companies, economic development organizations, and other key organizations and institutions
- Manage TCG-PS personnel, resources, and programs. Responsibilities include: interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws
- Continuously monitor and evaluate TCG_PS programs and services to ensure that they remain responsive to client and market needs. Recommend and implement changes as needed
- Provide input to agenda/strategies and work closely with Marketing & Communications to ensure effective outreach / marketing / promotion of TCG-PS programs and services
- Engage President & CEO, Board of Directors, and the Technology Commercialization Group Advisory Committee on key strategies issues and program evolution
- Establish and maintain relationships with regional and national partner organizations
- Work closely with the rest of the senior management team to develop and execute strategy and operating objectives for the organization.
Other Skills and Qualifications:
- Proficiency in the use BFTP/SEP information system and resources
- Proven experience assessing the commercial viability of products, processes, technologies and ventures
- Demonstrated expertise with technology and/or entrepreneurial development related to physical science based technologies
- Ability to prioritize and manage the production of work so that overall quality and quantity meets or exceeds the organization's requirements and objectives
- Demonstrated time management skills for coordinating internal and external programmatic activities with extensive field work between clients and BFTP/SEP personnel
- Demonstrated proficiency working effectively with a variety of constituents including: corporate executives, academic institutions, government agencies, Board of Directors, senior management, staff, committees and colleagues
- Ability to thrive in an atmosphere of high achievement, expectations, changing priorities, and stress
- Outstanding presentation and inter-personal communications skills
- A high degree of discretion, experience, and confidentiality
Educational & Other Requirements:
- Minimum BS in engineering or science related to the physical sciences, advanced degrees preferred
- Minimum of ten years private sector experience in a technical / engineering / line or program management capacity
- Ability to work independently, adhere to prescribed procedures, and maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work extended hours and travel throughout the region
