The Nanotechnology Institute™ (NTI) is a multi-institutional, non-profit organization whose unique mission is to accelerate nanotechnology commercialization through interdisciplinary translational research that flows from academic laboratories to industry through company formation and product development.
Founded in 2000 by the University of Pennsylvania, Drexel University, and Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania (BFTP/SEP), the NTI’s goal is to bridge the gap between nanotechnology research and commercialization to develop the regional economy and to realize the promise of nanotechnology for societal benefit. Significant emphasis is currently devoted to addressing opportunities in the health/life sciences and alternative energy, with additional programs in a range of specifically targeted areas.
Projects from PIs at NTI-affiliated institutions with clearly identified and documented industry partners, whose proposals are based on intellectual property from NTI member institutions and are registered by the Nanotechnology Commercialization Group (NCG) are eligible to apply. Please see attached pre-proposal and proposal applications for additional eligibility and funding guidelines.
Application Deadlines:
- Pre-Proposal August 1, 2012 5:00PM EST
- Full Proposal (upon invitation) October 15, 2012 5:00PM EST
All proposals will be reviewed by the NTI Operations Committee (OPS) for eligibility and adherence to stated requirements. Proposals meeting these criteria will be reviewed by the NTI OPS, the NCG, NTI’s Corporate Advisory Group (CAG), and at least two external reviewers drawn from regional universities, industry, venture capital, and economic development organizations with demonstrated expertise in technology development and commercialization as deemed necessary by OPS. Recommendations by the NTI OPS and NCG are made to the NTI’s Oversight Committee (OC) for final approval.
