Technology Commercialization Group

"Getting Ideas to Market... Faster"

BFTP/SEP's Technology Commercialization Group (TCG) works with companies to identify new products for development and commercialization, and finds the best solutions team within our extensive partner network of regional universities and research incubators. The TCG also identifies market needs and partners to create new pathways to commercialization for entrepreneurs and researchers.

Over the past 5 years, BFTP/SEP has funded more than 190 companies to solve product development and commercialization challenges by working with members in our partner network.

Programs and Partnerships

The Technology Commercialization Network (TCN), comprised of more than 20 colleges, universities and research institutions, provides advisors in strategic product planning, design, manufacturing, and marketing. BFTP/SEP facilitates and funds engagements between companies and members of the TCN.

The PA Green Growth Partnership, and its predecessor, the Consortium for Sustainable Design and Research, is a collaboration among Philadelphia University, Temple University, Villanova University, the Pittsburgh Green Building Alliance, and BFTP/SEP focusing on green or environmentally friendly technologies and construction materials. The partnership has successfully assisted over 30 young companies.

The Partnership for Broadband Wireless Innovations leverages the research and development reputation of Villanova's Center for Advanced Communications, along with Widener University, Temple University's College of Engineering, and the U.S. Air Force and Navy, to support company product development. The partnership has assisted more than 15 companies.

The Innovation Partnership (IPART), a BFTP statewide program, provides assistance in the preparation of SBIR/STTR federal grant proposals. BFTP has assisted with over 75 grant applications.

The Drexel/Coulter Commercialization Fund accelerates the commercialization of biomedical discoveries at Drexel University. BFTP/SEP is providing follow-on funding and support to select translational stage projects funded by the Coulter Foundation, in order to create new companies and licensing opportunities.

The Ben Franklin Intellectual Property Pool partners with Phoenix IP Ventures to seek alternative approaches to commercialize donated Intellectual Property from corporate and industry partners.

The Corporate Technology Scout program works with industry leaders to identify or create companies that can help fill their technology pipeline and form strategic alliances for mutual benefit.
