Seeded with $10 million from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Alternative Energy Development Program (AEDP), Ben Franklin is Powering Up the Region with investments and partnerships to create new enterprises, new products and new economic growth.

Home to energy-sector entrepreneurs, multinational corporations, investment capital resources and leading researchers, Greater Philadelphia is the nexus of the Mid-Atlantic energy hub—Power Valley.

Together with partners across the region, Ben Franklin is fostering the formation of a Greater Philadelphia energy cluster…Power Valley. Over the past year, the Power Valley Partners has supported the development and submission of more than $650 million in federal proposals to build the region, and secured approximately $362 million thus far.

In 2010 the region celebrated the award of nearly $129 million in funding from the U.S. DOE, EDA and other federal agencies to create the Energy Efficient Buildings Hub (EEB) at The Navy Yard. Ben Franklin is proud to be the commercialization partner for the EEB Hub, operating the EEB Hub Commercialization Center (HCC). The HCC, located at Building 101 in The Navy Yard, houses and supports startup, growth and established businesses, focused on improving energy efficiency in new and retrofitted buildings.

The HCC is hosting a series of webinars to introduce the Ben Franklin Navigator™ virtual business services program for HCC clients. The Ben Franklin Navigator™ program offers virtual services, creating linkages with companies regionally, nationally and internationally, who are interested in exploring regional opportunities, and being involved with the EEB Hub.

The Pennsylvania Energy Economy Map™, piloted by BFTP/SEP, dynamically catalogues Pennsylvania’s robust energy assets, creating a tool for companies, academics, economic development and public officials to identify opportunities for collaboration and industry growth.
